Here are ways you can support Bronwyn:
- “Like” the Support Bronwyn Atherton page
- Send Bronwyn a Supportive Message
- Give Money for Health & Legal Costs
- Visit Bronwyn in Jail
1. “Like” the Support Bronwyn Atherton page
Liking the Support Bronwyn Atherton page on Facebook shows Bronwyn people care for her. It also shows the Peruvian & Australian governments that she matters, improving her chances of early release.
2. Send Bronwyn a Supportive Message
In prison it can be hard to keep your spirits up, and you can feel that people have forgotten you. Let Bronwyn know that she isn’t forgotten.
Write a short message on the Support Bronwyn Atherton page on Facebook to send her support.
You can also send Bronwyn a more private message via the Message button on the Facebook page. There is no Internet access in the jail, but people in Peru will take a printout of your message to her.
3. Give Bronwyn Money for Health & Legal Costs
Bronwyn’s health isn’t great. She has HIV AIDS. She is frequently sick from the jail’s food, and sometimes passes blood. She needs a colonoscopy. Money can provide Bronwyn with better medical treatment. It can also provide her with clean food, so she can get better.
Bronwyn has served about four years in jail. She has ten years of her sentence left. Money can fund legal proceedings in Peru that could have Bronwyn’s sentence shortened or pardoned.
Every dollar helps.
>> Give by Bank Deposit (preferred)
You can give directly to Bronwyn’s own Australian bank account, for example by Internet Banking or dropping by a Westpac branch:
| Bank: | Westpac |
| Account Name: | Bronwyn Kay Atherton |
| BSB: | 732695 |
| Account No.: | 612081 |
>> Give Online By Credit Card / Paypal
For those who prefer to give to Bronwyn by credit card, I’ve put the “Buy Now” button below. You can select an amount from $10.
Money given via Paypal goes to my business Paypal account first (hence the “Buy Now” button), then to Bronwyn’s account. If it’s convenient for you, direct deposit to Bronwyn’s bank account above is preferred.
4. Visit Bronwyn in Jail
Are you visiting South America? It would mean a lot to Bronwyn if you visited her in Santa Monica prison in Lima, Peru.

I did something similar but I was lucky enough to be in Perth WA. I was so heart broken when I heard your story. You are one strong lady! I will keep you in my thoughts and hope all goes well with your new lawyer. Good luck xx
Hi, I am unable to visit Bronwyn in person but would I be able to get in touch with either Mary or someone who visits her regularly so as I can send her a “comfort parcel” just some little gifts and some Aussie things that may make her smile to let her know that she is thought of?
Sending parcel can be costly because of the postage and you will need to complete a Customs Declaration. Parcels sent direct to the prison do not always get to her. The Foreign Women’s Prison Ministry visit weekly and have delivered parcels successfully in the past.
Address the parcel:

Can anyone clarify what exactly the Australian Government is doing to assist Bronwyn, I hate to think how many other Australian citizens are in similar situations around the world. Time for action Australia, start looking after your citizens!
Lets start asking the politicians what they are doing to get Bronwyn home!
In the meantime hopefully my donation will help her.
Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade Consular Support Officers are in regular contact with Bronwyn and her parents. Consular Officer visits monthly and investigates any requests by Bronwyn or her parents regarding her treatment or her condition. The Australian Government cannot interfere in the legal processes of another country. Australia does not have an agreement with Peru regarding transfer of prisioners. Bronwyn can use the public phone at the prison to call the Consular Officer who has a working relationship with the Humanitarian Commission and the Justice Department in Peru. Processes are very slow in Peru and the Minister of Justice has changed several times over the 4 years – this has often meant a change in systems and need to put in more up to date applications for consideration of pardon on humanitarian grounds or reduction in sentance. The department of our Foreign Minister, Mr Bob Carr, is currently investigating ways which Bronwyn can be assisted further in her application or to facilitate a transfer back to Australia.
Could somebody please inform me how i can get permission to visit Browyn in prison, as I will be in Lima at the end of August 2012. In July i wrote to the counsellor of Lima in regards to visiting an Australian prisoner but to date i have not heard anything. So please if you can help would you do so as soon as possible as time is passing very quickly. Thank you.
Female visitors can visit Santa Monica Women’s Prison on Wednesdays and Sundays. Male visitors can visit on Saturdays. No arrangement is necessary. However, if you wish to make an appointment to visit her then you need to send a message to Bronwyn telling her when you wish to visit and give your passport number – this is because she is the one who has to put in the special request. These are arrangements outside the normal visiting days.
Dear Bronwyn “We Love You” we are praying for you. Do you know how to play “gentle woman quiet light”, on your guitar.
Bron, I have known you since you were a child. You are intelligent, creative, loving, and to your detriment, it seems, extremely loyal and honest. You were such a devoted, loving mother to your beautiful boy Shimiya. It broke my heart to see you break down in the interview as you relived the terrible moments surrounding his death. It is obvious that you are traumatised and need the love and support of family and friends and psychological intervention to process the painful emotions you have been trying to escape. His death catapulted you into a state where you just sacrificed yourself to the moment trusting that God would show you the way. You still have your faith amazingly .. and a naiive trust in persons who were obviously taking advantage of your vulnerability. You just so much wanted to believe, to acknowledge your betrayal is just too painful. If I ever have the funds and am planning a trip, it will be straight to Peru with kat, Guy and Amber, to visit you. Stay strong.. stay focused on your art and music.. keep creating.. you are amazing..love you Bron xx
Dearest Bronwyn,
Like so many others who have heard your story I am praying, hoping and wishing that you can be home soon. Not a day passes that you are not in my thoughts and I am sure that many others back here feel the same way.
Hopefully soon I will get some time off I will head over and see you, until then please remember you are in our prayers.
Bay.
